Just for a change…
A very small section of science quite succinctly demonstrates my views on science over god.
I have stated that religion has been used, and still is used, as a gap filler where we have no physical evidence of why things happen.
In years gone by many things that we take for granted due to scientific investigation and hard data analysis, were once attributed to a gods.
Since science began, it has found that there are a strict set of rules governing the universe… A universal picture of how stuff works, and why.
Science then pieced together, like a jigsaw, how the universe, biology etc works (or was likely to work, with a few grey areas). Trouble is, science had lots of bits missing, but it new by the rules where the gaps were, and what bit should fit them (even though it didn’t have the bit).
As science progresses, it discovers more bits of the puzzle, and wow! Those early scientists were right when they calculated, using physics etc, what the piece would be.
Lots of bits are missing, but science has given us a very good idea of what the picture on the jigsaw box is meant to be, and is slowly making the picture properly.
Religion just says ‘Trust me, it’s a forest scene with a squirrel, you don’t need to see the picture‘.
Way back in history the four things that were considered to be ‘elements’, earth, wind, water, fire, were aligned to gods… before the scientists debunked these elements and proved beyond doubt that this isn’t how things work.
In fact, for me, the periodic table is that micro section of science that demonstrates how science is able to ‘see‘ things that are yet to be discovered via interpolation & extrapolation of data.
Back in 1869 Dmitri Mendeleev assembled the first periodic table (chart) of 65 known elements. This is the table of solid, liquid and gaseous base elements, such as oxygen, gold, iron, hydrogen… but not water or air or other things made from several of the elements combined. This table was riddled with gaps, yet Mendeleev knew that due to the very physics of the universe, that eventually other elements would fill… MUST fill… the gaps. Well over 100 elements have now been discovered, with more to come. I won’t put the actual number, as more will be added as science progresses, because that’s what happens in reality – things get discovered and we move on. Suggesting that everything is fixed and needs no alteration is the realm of fairy tales and religious scripture.
Just because man hadn’t found them, or even knew how to look for them, the known data said they must be there.
As the years rolled by, more elements have been discovered, perfectly filling the criteria required to fill the gaps, and more will be discovered.
What science doesn’t know, can be calculated, estimated, theorised extrapolated, interpolated, from the universal rules. Day in and day out these unknowns are discovered, and they fill the gaps as predicted.
I am fully aware that I don’t know everything. I am also fully aware that there is a lot of stuff that I don’t know that I don’t know. I’m also perfectly happy knowing that I couldn’t possibly even start to imagine some of the things I don’t know that I don’t know… BUT… I know that through history, science has theorised the gaps, found potential things to fill the gaps, tested those things to make sure they really do fill the gaps, and then filled that gap with them… AND it doesn’t stop there. Science willingly puts itself up for question and debate to test the theories and universal rules it has discovered.
Religion just requires blind faith, as there is yet to be one solid fact demonstrated to me to show that a god exists.
You do realise don’t you, that a sunrise over snow capped mountains, can be a beautiful thing just because… and not need a god to assign that sight to?
Sure, you may say ‘explain why so and so is this and that’ and I won’t have an answer, but I won’t go running to god due to this. Just because I personally can’t answer a question, or some top physicist is sat at CERN scratching their head over an answer, DOESN’T mean that the answer is god. What it does mean though, based on the history of the sciences, is that an answer could be found one day, through science.
Leonardo Da Vinci designed flying machines that would never work because he didn’t have the right materials to use at the time, but he knew that one day his calculations and designs would lead to manned flight. Just because HE didn’t know the answer, or have all the right gear, didn’t stop him. He KNEW the gaps existed, and he KNEW through science, that it was only a mater of time until those gaps would be filled… and by man, not god.
We just aren’t smart enough yet. And with that thought, here’s Dr Neil DeGrasse:
Remember the anti-homosexual policy that Uganda is rolling out on the 25th December? Jail or death to all homosexuals?
Well, ‘his Papal protector of kiddie molestersness’ has given the top Ugandan behind the law a blessing…
This week the religious groups have really been shining.
Shining like fool’s gold.
Bunch of hateful ignorant morons. With your religious leaders acting his way, how can you still want to be a part of it?
I don’t think there’s much that I could say against Westboro Baptist Church that sane people would object to.
The latest thing this bunch of right wing ‘God Hates Fags’ Christian asshats have come up with is picketing the Connecticut victims funerals. See HERE.
Westboro will picket Sandy Hook Elementary School to sing praise to God for the glory of his work in executing his judgment.
Dead because THEY DIDN’T BELIEVE… I shit you not.
Bryan Fischer spent the first hour of his radio program today discussing this morning’s truly horrific shooting at an elementary school in Connecticut, which he, of course, blamed on the fact that prayer, the Bible, and the Ten Commandments are not taught in public schools.
Fischer said that God could have protected the victims of this massacre, but didn’t because “God is not going to go where he is not wanted” and so if school administrators really want to protect students, they will start every school day with prayer:
And this link, from a guy who would be President… Yeah… Another asshole:
Never one to let a chance to politicize a tragedy pass him by, Huckabee doesn’t want to talk about guns or male violence or the culture of violence he participates in on Fox News. No, he wants to blame the victims of the crime by suggesting that if they had let his God in His Way, this wouldn’t have happened. If we had God in our schools, they would not be a place of “carnage”.
Prayer circles, better places, God’s actions… all things to hide behind. This is a terrible tragedy and one I cannot start to comprehend (as a father myself). It must be horrific for those involved… But WE need to take ownership of OUR problems, and stop candy coating these things, stop making it into some religious crusade or action of God.
This is a human thing, and it’s time to drop the safety blanket, the blame protection, of religion.
My thoughts are with all those affected.
I tried not to go over my APRIL JONES rant again, but to recap… The ‘social media’, your Facebook, Twitter, Reddit etc, will now be full of attention seeking whores asking you to LIKE or SHARE pictures and posts regarding the shootings. This is nothing to do with those poor kids, but it is everything to do with people using the killings as a way to gain popularity.
Same to the religious groups who are praying for the children and families. A waste of time, ineffectual at best, an WHO ARE YOU PRAYING TO?
Yeah, your fucking god who let this happen.
There is no God. Just grow up and take responsibility and stop using religion as a security blankie.
God’s no Macca fan.
And yes… It’s TRUE.
Blandest choice ever… A bit Dumb. Never liked him, even in his youth.
This is why Jesus doesn’t want him as a sunbeam.
When was the last time you saw those proud American Christians form a protest march and argue against fat, lazy people?
No, really? Stop laughing…
No shouts from the religious groups to burn the fast food houses of sin!
No protests in front of gyms, where those movie star looks are honed, buffed & chiseled… No screams for plastic surgeons to be burnt or stoned…
Which is odd, as these are listed as some of the seven deadly (major) sins… Yet no one argued against fat, lazy, proud Americans when the election was on… No religious rallying to ban McDonalds or KFC in the more religious states… Nope, just that gay agenda… Not even a major sin.
It’s not just the Americans of course, although 74.6% of them are overweight, and around 80% worship God… So I guess sloth & gluttony aren’t in the American bible… but as I said, it’s not just the Americans. The British, French, Chinese, French, Italians, French, Africans, oh sod it, you name it …. they all have problems… unless you go to Northern Europe & the Scandinavian areas. Much less religion (and some of the healthiest people in the world…)
Look at those proud Ugandans, who now, at the very least, can jail someone for life for being homosexual… and worse still… If you are a Ugandan in another country, you can be extradited to Uganda if you are straight and only know a gay. If you are seen being a bit gay in public, then the sentence is a bit tougher. You will be killed. It’s the law.
And yet… The wrath, the pride that fuels these highly religious Christian law makers, is a far bigger sin than kissing someone of the same sex…
What a bunch of homophobic, hide behind the bible, uneducated morons.
Lets face it… Santa is a fatty… He likes to knock back the mince pies… So if you want to go to heaven, I suggest you stone that false idol, red suit wearing, fatty pie muncher to death. It’s the Christian way.
The highly religious, highly Christian country has been trying to get this bill passed since 2009, and it faced a great deal of criticism on an international level along the way: several European countries threatened to reduce aid to the country if the bill was passed.
Speaker Rebecca Kadaga described the bill’s passing as a “Christmas gift” for the Ugandan people.
Uganda’s Anti-Homosexuality Bill (often called the “Kill the Gays bill” in the media) is a legislative proposal that would broaden the criminalisation of same-sex relations in Uganda by dividing homosexual behaviour into two categories: “aggravated homosexuality”, in which an “offender” would receive the death penalty, or “the offence of homosexuality” in which an offender would receive life imprisonment.
“Aggravated homosexuality” is defined to include homosexual acts committed by a person who is HIV-positive, is a parent or authority figure, or who administers intoxicating substances, homosexual acts committed on minors or people with disabilities, and repeat offenders.
“The offence of homosexuality” is defined to include same-sex sexual acts, involvement in a same-sex marriage, or an attempt to commit aggravated homosexuality.
It further includes provisions for Ugandans who engage in same-sex relations outside of Uganda, asserting that they may be extradited for punishment back to Uganda, and includes penalties for individuals, companies, media organisations, or non-governmental organisations that know of gay people or support LGBT rights.
Yeah, the old protector of rapists & stalwart of untruths, has once more made an illogical statement.
Pretty much as follows:
How does he get away with it?
Well, when all of your supporters believe a magic book about virgin birth, water into wine, raping daughters & sacrificing sons, then I guess he thinks that he can get away with anything, as his followers will believe whatever he says… Without question or action.
